I wrote many papers in undergraduate and graduate school, and later after school, I discovered a holistic approach to writing that make writing easier and more fun. I use this approach when teaching writing since students often become stuck in writing and need to approach it differently.
Experience
Experiences In addition to teaching many classes in reading, writing, and ESL, I've tutored students who needed help with reading and writing. Sometimes these subjects can be challenging, and I like to work with students to help them understand and then build their skills. In tutoring sessions, we first talk a bit, then review the assignment and focus on the areas that need work. I'll explain something, then check to be sure the student understands, and then the student practices the skill. We practice a lot, and I always give lots of encouragement, for I know the student can do the work. One student told me last semester that he was very grateful that I had given him so many chances to rewrite and improve his paper because he learned new skills each time he rewrote it. i like to see my students succeed!

Hobbies
I'm an outdoor lover, in warm weather certainly. I like to hike, swim, garden, and relax at the beach. I also enjoy many creative projects -- painting, knitting, cooking -- as well as reading and writing. Over the summer I visited some family in Denmark where we enjoyed the beach, the woods, and many dinners outside in the garden. (The sun doesn't set till around 11 pm.) In colder weather, I'm indoors more staying warm.
